Human Rights Coalition

The Human Rights Coalition of Alachua County (HRC) was formed in 2017 as a group of community activists and organizers who were committed to local, tangible solutions to creating immigrant safety. Since merging with the RWHP in July 2024, the social justice division focuses on strengthening communities’ capacity to overcome social justice barriers through legal and know-your-rights education workshops, accompaniment and tangible services, such as the HRC Community ID and legal navigation services. This division provides immigrants in North Central Florida with the knowledge and resources they need to assert their rights, access opportunities, and navigate systems effectively.

Mission

Our mission is to cultivate safety and empowerment for immigrant families and individuals in North Central Florida by working with the immigrant community to build knowledge and self-sufficiency through community education, tangible services, advocacy, and strengthening community connections.

Vision

We envision a world in which all people, regardless of nationality or national origin can live with dignity. We believe that everyone has a right to safety, a right to thrive, and a right to simply exist.

HRC Initiatives

ID Cards

The HRC ID provides card holders with a reliable form of identification that can be used as a tool by law enforcement, city departments, health centers, schools, businesses, and cultural arts organizations to better identify, serve, and protect us.

Immigration Accompaniment Program

Immigration accompaniment involves providing support and assistance to individuals navigating the immigration process, particularly those facing challenges such as detention, deportation, or asylum proceedings.

Legal Navigation

Our trained legal navigator, can provide information and orientation about how legal systems work and individual rights and responsibilities within those systems. She is available to assist immigrant clients negotiating the criminal, immigration, and civil legal systems and provide emotional support.

CALL THE IMMIGRANT

HOTLINE

The hotline can be used to obtain information about local resources, to be connected with legal resources which may be needed by immigrants, and to report local immigration enforcement activities. The hotline is answered by trained English and Spanish-speaking volunteers and staff. When we receive a call seeking information or recommendations on legal issues, you will be connected with our legal advocate, or with our director if seeking immigration bail assistance.

The hotline is part of our larger, “sanctuary in the streets” program. Although originally envisioned as a means of coordinating peaceful presence at immigration enforcement conflicts, we find that most folks call us not in moments of emergency, but rather seeking information about local programs and resources.

The Immigrant Hotline is answered from 8am to 8pm daily.
